NASCAR star Kyle Busch has explained when he expects free agency decisions to be named this year.
Fox's Bob Pockrass reports that there are currently more than 20 Cup Series drivers currently unsigned beyond this year, setting up a silly season to remember.
Busch is one of those 20+ drivers, having only signed for one more year when he extended his contract last summer, and has explained that it's not just the teams who are weighing up their options.
The two-time champion claimed that drivers are also looking at their performance levels and the performance of their team, and trying to decide whether they'd be better seeking out a new home.
Busch out of contract after 2026
That's particularly relevant for Busch himself, whose winless streak is creeping toward 100 races as he goes into his fourth season with Richard Childress Racing, having won three of his first 15 races with the team and none since.
The veteran namechecked the Coca-Cola 600 as the point in the season where everyone has a sense of how their year's going to end.
He explained: "It's going to take a little bit of time before you get a sense of where you're at. I've always kind of said, once you get to the Coke 600, that's sort of like where you'll fall in the season and where your points are and where you kind of stack up.
"You can go about one or two places higher or lower than where you're at currently. I would say that would be a good time to start judging."
