NASCAR star Brad Keselowski answers 'tough' question on Cup Series driver-owner status

NASCAR star Brad Keselowski has revealed he'd be completely torn if he had to give up his status as either a driver or owner in the Cup Series.

Keselowski both drives for RFK Racing in the No. 6 Ford and co-owns the team, with the K in their name representing his second name after he joined the organization ahead of the 2022 season.

Keselowski's situation is a rare one. While he is one of two drivers to both co-own and drive in the Cup Series alongside Denny Hamlin, Keselowski does both for the same team, whereas Hamlin drives for Joe Gibbs Racing and co-owns 23XI.

With that said, it is perhaps why he was on the fence when it came to answering a question on whether he'd give up being an owner or driver, if push came to shove.

That question was put to him by fellow racer Michael McDowell as part of Jeff Gluck's 12 Questions for The Athletic this week, and the RFK Racing driver-owner admitted it would be a really tough decision.

"Right now!? Oh man. Is somebody holding a gun to my head? This reminds me of that Deion Sanders pizza commercial (from 1995) where he had to choose between the two with stuffed crust, and he was like, 'I want both.' That’s me right now," explained Keselowski.

"That’s a really hard choice because I would tell you it’s 50-50 for me. It depends on the day. When your car is fast and you’re leading races, there is nothing better than being a race car driver. It’s the coolest thing in the world. I am so blessed.

"When you go to races and the car is slow, and it’s on the edge, and you’re questioning yourself, your team and all of life’s decisions, those are the days I want to be an owner [laughs] because then I want to be the guy who makes the decisions and fixes it.

"This year, we were leading Darlington. I won both stages, finished second. Good race. And I’m like, 'Nah, this is where I want to be.' So I would say I’m a flip-flopper, which is not what I think Michael was asking. But hey, I have the microphone. He doesn’t."
