Hendrick Motorsports star Chase Elliott is set to swap the next-gen NASCAR Cup Series car for a Late Model later this month at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
That is according to an official announcement from JR Motorsports, who confirmed on Tuesday that the 2020 Cup Series champion would be piloting their No. 8 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet Late Model at North Wilkesboro in the CARS Tour.
Elliott's runout takes place on Friday, July 17, with the NASCAR Truck and Cup Series both in action at the track that weekend on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

NASCAR fans bittersweet reaction to Chase Elliott news
While NASCAR fans are excited to see Elliott make the switch, some couldn't help but feel torn over the announcement.
Prior to his death, Kyle Busch was set to run in the No. 8 Late Model for JR Motorsports, and fans can't help but feel that this was meant to be his drive.
"Pretty sure this was gonna be KFB’s ride originally. I hate and love this at the same time," one X user wrote.
Another X user added: Love this but also can’t help but think that this might have been the race Dale Jr. was talking to Kyle about running the 8 in."
The Dale Jr. comments referred to were made on his Dale Jr. Download podcast following Busch's tragic passing on May 21.
“I was texting with him the day before he passed away,” Earnhardt Jr. revealed. “About getting together this Thursday to bring his seat for his Late Model over to my shop because we agreed that he was going to race our car in the CARS Tour.
“He was going to race my Late Model in the CARS Tour, and I was like, ‘Hey, man,’ you know, he’s texting me, and he’s like, ‘What scheme are we going to run?’
“I was like, ‘You can run any scheme you want.’ I was like, ‘What number do you want to run? I got 51, whatever you want to run.’
“He goes, ‘I want to run the, and he said it literally, the Dale Jr. eight. And I was like, ‘You got it, that’s what’s on it right now, we’ll run the Dale Jr. eight.'
"And he gave me a head-exploding emoji, and he said, ‘Race fans.'"
Of course, it's unconfirmed whether or not this is actually when Busch was set to drive the JRM car, but as he was going to, Elliott will run the stylized No. 8 made famous by Earnhardt Jr. during his time at DEI on his car for the occasion.
Going short trackin’ on a Friday Night.
Chase Elliott will pilot the No. 8 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet Late Model at North Wilkesboro on July 17th.
