Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has issued a short, heartfelt statement following the death of Ned Jarrett.

Jarrett, a two-time Cup Series champion and Hall of Famer, sadly passed away at the age of 93 on June 4.

“With profound sadness, the family of NASCAR Hall of Fame driver and radio/TV personality, Ned Jarrett, announces his passing on Thursday, June 4, 2026," a statement from the Jarrett family read. "He died peacefully of natural causes at his home in Newton, North Carolina, with his family by his side. He was 93 years old.

"Our father was a devout Christian and a devoted, loving family man. He was a friend to everyone he met and NASCAR’s oldest living champion. By all accounts, he was a true NASCAR legend.

"While we mourn his passing, we celebrate the remarkable life of an amazing man and truly the best father anyone could have wished for. Rest in Peace, Dad.”

Jimmie Johnson pays tribute to Ned Jarrett

Following the sad news, NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell released an official statement, and following his race win at Michigan on Sunday, Denny Hamlin also mentioned Jarrett in his post-race press conference.

Now, Johnson has shared his own words on Jarrett's passing.

"Ned Jarrett was one of the kindest people I've had the privilege to know in our sport," Johnson wrote on his Instagram story.

"I'll never forget hearing him call Dale's Daytona 500 victory, one of the most memorable moments in NASCAR history. Over the years, I've been fortunate to get to know Dale and work alongside him, which makes this loss feel even more personal.

"My thoughts are with the entire Jarrett family. Ned's impact on our sport will never be forgotten."
