Hendrick Motorsports star Kyle Larson believes Kyle Busch's ultimate goal in NASCAR was to race against his son, Brexton.

Emotional and heartfelt tributes have poured in for the two-time champion since Busch's tragic passing at the age of 41 last Thursday, including a pre-race tribute ahead of last Sunday's Coca Cola 600.

Busch's wife, Samantha, and two children, Brexton and Lennix, were all present at the track to hear it, as were the wider Busch family, including brother and NASCAR Hall of Famer, Kurt.

Several of the Cup Series stars showed their support by wearing Brexton Busch tees pre-race, and Larson has already spoken about just how proud he was of the young racer during that moment.

Larson on Busch's ultimate NASCAR goal

Now, the reigning Cup Series champion has revealed all he knew about Busch's nurturing of Brexton's racing career and his dream to one day race against his son in NASCAR.

“I think that was his ultimate sort of goal, is what it seemed like,” Larson explained to Entertainment Tonight.

“He's raised Brexton to be an amazing race car driver, so there's no doubt in my mind that Brexton will make it to the Cup Series someday and hopefully, accomplish all the things that his dad has been able to, if not more.

“Brexton is probably the best 11-year-old that there is doing the racing that he's doing right now, and I know he'll make Kyle very proud along the way.”

Kyle Busch 2023 comments are heartbreaking

If you don't believe Larson, you only have to listen back to comments made by Busch in 2023 on SiriusXM Business Radio’s show, Cars & Culture with Jason Stein.

Back then, Brexton was just eight years old, but Kyle saw the vision.

“I would say in a perfect world – I’ve kind of dreamt this up a little bit – in a perfect world, I would retire from Cup racing when Brexton is 15 years old, and I would go run a year of Trucks," Busch said at the time (via Motorsport.com).

“I’d go run a full Truck series season to see if I can win a Truck series championship because that, I would be the first one to have ever won all three (national) series of NASCAR, you know, the championship, which I’ve won the most races across all three of those divisions, than anybody combined.

“So, I would do that and then when Brexton turns 16, him and I can split that truck where he can run the shorter track races and I can run the bigger track races. So, for two years, because you have to be 18 to run the big tracks, so for two years we would split it. And then when he’s 18, he takes it over, and then when he runs it and takes it over and hopefully wins a championship, then he moves on and then I’m out.

“Like, I’m done. You know, that would, that would be it for me. So that would probably put me around, I guess 49, 50 years old.”
