It sure is exciting times for seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and his NASCAR outfit Legacy Motor Club.

Currently, Legacy Motor Club runs two cars in the Cup Series, but from 2027 onwards, they will be expanding to three cars after coming to an agreement with Rick Ware Racing in 2025.

That charter agreement came after a somewhat messy lawsuit, but it is now all in the past.

Heading into 2027, then, the team can now focus on what will be a huge upgrade for them and ponder all of the additional benefits that they are set to get from running three cars full-time as opposed to two.

Jimmie Johnson on Legacy Motor Club third charter

Speaking on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Johnson confirmed that a third Legacy Motor Club car will be on track next year 'without question' and outlined some of the benefits he is expecting it to bring.

"Yeah, without question we will have a third car on the grid next year," Johnson explained.

"Very excited about that, and you know, as we continue to improve, we continue to grow inside the industry, our growth and our commitment to growth will be able to attract and recruit the right individuals to help come in and really grow the work for us, for this third car.

"That's really an exciting time for us, where we can bring a lot of IP in-house, have 30% more on-track time, and all the additional benefits of running a third car will help speed up our progress."

Legacy Motor Club's third full-time car will make its NASCAR debut at the season-opening Daytona 500 next year.

That race will be a special one for Johnson, who has already confirmed it will also be his last in the Cup Series.
