NASCAR star Shane van Gisbergen will be doubling up at the next points-paying Cup Series weekend.
Having only run one Truck Series race in his career prior to last weekend – at Indianapolis Raceway Park in 2023 – the New Zealander made his second appearance in the series last Sunday at Watkins Glen, and will be back before the end of the month.
The road course master will jump into the No. 71 Spire Motorsports truck for the May race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the Friday before the Coca-Cola 600.
Some drivers choose to punish themselves by doing the Indy 500 - Coke 600 double, some are sensible and drive the nice, normal 200-mile Truck race on the Friday night. They don't even have to travel!

Van Gisbergen unlocking new levels for Trackhouse Racing
While Van Gisbergen continues to make significant improvements at ovals in his sophomore season in the Cup Series, Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks didn't hide the fact that it's road course dominance where the Kiwi has earned his money.
“When we signed our GM key partner deal, it was a four-year deal," he said after SVG's win at Watkins Glen last Sunday. "The second half of it, we had to put a car in the playoffs to unlock the next two years.
“At the end of those first two years, we already had like five or six wins or something like that.
“If you were to ask me when we started Trackhouse that we would have a win total that we’ve got right now, I wouldn’t have believed it. It’s just an incredible group of people that we’ve got.
“This new race car has certainly opened the door for us to have the success, along with a lot of other teams, create a lot of parity in the sport. We have a race car driver that is at a level that I don’t think this sport has ever seen before on these road courses.
“I thought, seven wins, by this point, the field would have figured out how to close the gap, but he just continues to deliver at such an incredibly high level. We’re just so lucky to have him in that car and our new sponsor SuperFile this year to get them into victory lane. It’s always super special to get a new partner in victory lane."
