NASCAR star Shane van Gisbergen has backed one of his old Supercars rivals to come Stateside and boost Ford's road course record.

Ford cars have only won two road course races this decade – via Chris Buescher and Michael McDowell in 2024 and 2023 respectively – with only one top-three finish since Buescher's win nearly two years ago, and the Trackhouse Racing star backed current Supercars championship leader Broc Feeney to come and give them a boost.

Van Gisbergen, who has won eight of his 16 road course starts in NASCAR after his 2023 debut, backed the 23-year-old phenom to follow in his footsteps, revealing that Feeney has been trying to get a road course drive set up this year.

Feeney's current drive for a Ford team in Supercars means that he'd be unlikely to join Van Gisbergen's Chevy-running Trackhouse Racing team for a one-off race, but the veteran driver hinted that that could be a good thing for Ford.

Van Gisbergen: Feeney tried for multiple NASCAR races this year

“I think [Feeney] tried for Watkins [Glen] and Sonoma, he really wants to have a crack,” van Gisbergen told the Dale Jr Download this week after his win at Sonoma.

“I’m sure he’d be like me. Maybe he’d want to have a go on the ovals after, but it’d be really interesting to see how he’d go.

“I think Ford struggled a little bit on the road courses, so it’d be good to get someone good in that car. Not that the others aren’t good, but it’d be really good to see what Broc could do and how much he could do in the future too.”

It's not the first time that SVG discussed the prospect of Feeney coming to NASCAR on Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s podcast, having said last year: "He loves it. He’s on the ovals all the time iRacing, watching all the ovals, texting me all the time. I think he would be really good.”
