NASCAR Cup Series star Ryan Blaney has offered his latest take on a controversial moment involving Denny Hamlin during Sunday's race at Martinsville Speedway.
Hamlin and Blaney were in third and fourth spot at the time of the incident in the Cook Out 400, but the former found himself losing position after the two made contact on lap 334.
Hamlin was on the inside and Blaney the outside as they approached lap 335, but the No. 11 forced the No. 12 into the wall as he came out of the corner and up the track.
Hamlin later revealed that he had lost control at that moment, spinning his rears and getting higher up the track than intended, but it was clear that Blaney wasn't impressed, offering a blunt response to the media when quizzed about it once he was out of the car.

Blaney and Hamlin all good after Martinsville
Now, though, the Team Penske star has softened his stance slightly, and it comes after a conversation with Hamlin after the race.
“We were racing hard on the restart,” Blaney said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “It was kind of hard to hold the outside, especially with a good car to the bottom, so I was kind of fighting for my life up there.
“Looking back on it, you know, I'm holding him tight, he's using up some track, and he exited four higher than I expected - he and I talked after the race and we're all good.
“He got free off of four trying to put the throttle down, so he was higher than I thought he was going to be, and I’m holding him tight, and once we kind of connected, my left front and his right rear just kind of connected, and we both just went into defence, and obviously I got the bad end of it, but I don't think it was anything intentional.”
Blaney: We were just racing hard
The Team Penske star continued, stating that he and Hamlin were simply racing each other hard, and that he understood Hamlin’s perspective after they spoke post-race.
“We were just racing hard and unfortunately, I got the bad end of it,” Blaney admitted. “But I think that's just two guys trying it.
“At the time, I was like, ‘Man, that was pretty uncalled for’, but once he explained his side of it, I understood where he was coming from.
“It still stinks for me, but you know, it wasn't anything intentional that Denny did, so I really don't have too big…hard feelings about it.”
