NASCAR Cup Series star Brad Keselowski has admitted he doesn't know if racing at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) this weekend will worsen his injury, but he has no intention of stepping out of his car.

Keselowski broke his femur back in December while on a family skiing trip, and underwent an intense rehabilitation program to be back in the No. 6 Ford for the Daytona 500 earlier this month.

So far, so good for the 42-year-old, who has made it through both Daytona and Atlanta unscathed. However, with COTA being a road course and therefore demanding a lot more physically, Keselowski has admitted to having concerns over whether or not he would be able to race in the build-up.

Well, today, the RFK Racing driver and co-owner revealed that he has no intention of stepping out of the car at any stage this weekend, even despite backup driver Joey Hand being on standby just in case.

Brad Keselowski shares injury update ahead of COTA

"No. No, I have no intention of getting out," Keselowski told the media at COTA.

"Yes, I mean, I gotta prove to myself. I gotta prove it to the team. If I didn't feel like I could do it, and, you know, at a high level, or if I was holding the team back, I wouldn't do it."

Keselowski also shared his motivations for racing with the media on Saturday: "Well, I mean, I gotta score a bunch of points, and, you know, go run.

"I'm a race car driver, that's what I do. That's just a racecar driver mentality.

"I mean, I’ve trained and worked for this my whole life. I feel like I can drive. I know it's gonna hurt, but I could do it, so let's go."

Could Keselowski aggravate injury?

Another topic that was put to Keselowski was whether or not the fact he wants to race no matter what could cause further damage to his leg, or set back his recovery.

The 2012 Cup Series champion was adamant that it was all part of the risk of being a racing driver.

“That's debatable. I guess I'll know that after the race is over," Keselowski replied when asked if he risked further injury.

"But, you know, that's the risk of being a race car driver at all times."

Keselowski starts Sunday's race at COTA in 26th place after a difficult performance in qualifying.
