NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson has revealed that he is already thinking about his retirement, but that he isn't going anywhere just yet.

The Hendrick Motorsports star is widely regarded as one of, if not the best, drivers in the sport currently, and won his second Cup championship at Phoenix last November.

As well as having a load of talent, Larson also has age on his side when it comes to further cementing his legacy in the sport, with the Elk Grove, California native just 33-years-old.

For context, Denny Hamlin just won last Sunday's All-Star Race at 45, so there are many years to come for Larson at the very top of the sport, if he wants it.

Kyle Larson on NASCAR retirement

Whether or not he wants to race for that long is a decision he will make in the future, though, with Larson himself revealing that while he already has retirement on his mind, he wants to keep racing until he's at least 40.

"I'm getting into my mid-30s. It's something that I do think about," Larson told SportsBoom.

"I would say I don't have a necessary end date in mind at all, but I think for me, the next milestone that I wanted to get to would be 40 years old, and then kind of reevaluate from that to see where life is at the moment.

"My kids will be getting older right now. My oldest son is 11. My daughter just turned eight, and our youngest is three, and I'll be 34 later this year. Life is going to look a lot different by the time I'm 40."

These comments back up previous ones from the two-time champion after he also suggested 40 was his next milestone in an interview with Motorsport Wire after signing a new contract at Hendrick Motorsports earlier this season.

Larson's season so far

Larson's comments come after a challenging start to the season for the reigning champion, currently sitting eighth in the standings after the opening 11 races of the Cup Series season.

Although he does have three top-fives, a victory has so far evaded him this year, and currently, his wait for a win in the Cup Series extends back to Kansas on May 11, 2025.

Still, there is plenty of time this season for Larson to put that right, with 14 races remaining in the regular season before the 10-race battle for the championship begins in The Chase.
