Exciting news for the NASCAR community has emerged, with reports that some teams and drivers are in talks with a Hollywood writer over a Days of Thunder sequel.

Directed by Tony Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (also Lead Producer on the recent F1 Movie), Days of Thunder was a feature-length movie released in 1990 that focused on the sport of NASCAR, following the journey of raw racing talent Cole Trickle, played by none other than Tom Cruise.

Commercially, the movie proved to be a success, and it also went down well with NASCAR fans, with exciting racing scenes and even real footage from NASCAR races woven in throughout.

Of course, 36 years have now passed since its release, but in recent years, reports have suggested that a sequel could be on the way. Then, last year, Tom Cruise offered fans further hope, stating: “All of these things we’re working on. We’re discussing ‘Days of Thunder’ and ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’ There are numerous other films that we’re actively working on right now.”

NASCAR teams and drivers plotting Days of Thunder sequel

Now, there has been an exciting update for those hoping to see Days of Thunder 2 happen.

According to Sport Business Journal, a Hollywood writer has been in talks with NASCAR teams and drivers as they look to develop a plot for the sequel.

Their report claims that multiple sources familiar with the situation have stated that the writer has been at multiple races recently, including last November's championship race and the Daytona 500 in February.

Multiple SBJ sources named that writer as Will Staples, who, according to IMDb, is best known for working on Without Remorse (2021), The Right Stuff (2020) and multiple video games, including Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (2011).
