NASCAR legend and two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch went head-to-head with his son Brexton on track yesterday...and lost!

Despite the NASCAR season being over, Kyle is continuing to compete to keep his skills sharp, and the father-son duo were in Illinois on Monday to compete in the POWRi Wing Outlaw Micro feature at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

In the race, Brexton was driving the No. 18B winged Outlaw Micro in his familiar green and orange colors, whilst dad Kyle was in the blue Lucas Oil branded No. 51.

Whilst neither won the race (that honor went to Kameron Chamness), Brexton eventually came home in an impressive sixth spot, whilst Busch Sr. could only manage 13th.

Kyle Busch beaten by son Brexton

The two-time Cup Series champion did have some issues with his machinery, though, according to Brexton post-race.

Taking to his Instagram page, Brexton wrote: "I beat my dad, but I didn’t earn it the way I wanted to!

"We were battling hard for 5th when he had a mechanical problem.

"Overall my Winged Outlaw debut went pretty good, 2nd in Hot Laps, 2nd in my Heat, and 6th in the A-Main!"

Who is Brexton Busch?

Brexton Busch is Kyle Busch's son and is well and truly following in the footsteps of his racing father.

Currently just 10 years old, Brexton began his racing career at the age of five in the Beginner Box Stock division at Millbridge Speedway and he hasn't looked back since.

It took young Brexton just one month to pick up his first-ever victory, which came at Mountain Creek Speedway, and since then, the accolades have continued to rack up. That includes winning his first career Golden Driller at the Tulsa Shootout Jr. Sprint Championship last January.

Legendary NASCAR team owner Richard Childress has even got his eye on the young talent already, having signed up to a $100 bill contract when Richard Childress Racing signed his father.

"Yeah, he is [doing well]," Childress said of Brexton's racing progress earlier this year before recalling a symbolic gesture he made to the young racer: "And I did sign him a contract, a $100 bill, when we signed up with Kyle."

Childress continued: “I’ve watched him race some and watched him on some of the YouTube stuff for different things that somebody had sent me, and I congratulate him.

"I think he won the championship in Florida, and I texted him and congratulated him on that and watched him run over at Millbridge.

"He’s a real deal like this one," Childress concluded, pointing towards Kyle.
