NASCAR technical inspection ahead of this weekend's Clash exhibition is underway in Winston-Salem despite snow threatening the schedule.

The Cup Series stars and their cars are set to hit the track in competitive action for the first time since November at Bowman Gray Stadium this weekend, with practice and qualifying heat races on Saturday, and the 200-lap race on Sunday.

However, whether or not any of that action actually goes ahead remains to be seen, with weather forecasting heavy snow and a winter storm.

In fact, AccuWeather is reporting that parts of North Carolina could see the worst snowfall in over a decade.

Indeed, a Winter Storm Watch is in place from 4pm on Friday, through to 1pm on Sunday (ET) covering the area in which Bowman Gray Stadium is situated.

NASCAR Cup Series inspection underway

So far, some side events surrounding the NASCAR action have already been canceled. On Wednesday, for example, Visit Winston-Salem pulled the plug on 'FanFare on Fourth', which was set to happen on Friday, and 'Cars & Coffee', which was pencilled for Sunday morning.

There has, of course, been talk that the event could be rescheduled and run in the week, but at present, it appears NASCAR is ploughing on ahead. No pun intended.

FOX8 photojournalist Chris Weaver shared images from Winston-Salem today of Cup Series cars being unloaded and prepared for inspection inside the Event Center at Winston-Salem Fairgrounds - five miles from Bowman Gray.

Of course, things can change quickly, but so far, NASCAR is showing no sign of being deterred by the weather.

As mentioned above, right now, Bowman Gray Stadium is in an area given a winter storm watch weather warning, beginning Friday January 30 and running through 1pm local time on Sunday, February 1.

Temperatures on race day are forecast to be a high of 28.4°F, with a low of 12.2°F. Never above freezing.

Before that, on Friday and Saturday, snow is forecast on both days, with snowfall expected that could be the worst seen in quite some time.
