Exciting reports regarding a Days of Thunder sequel emerged this week, and NASCAR Cup Series star Kyle Busch has seemingly confirmed them.

According to Sport Business Journal, a Hollywood writer has been in talks with NASCAR teams and drivers as they look to develop a plot for the sequel to the 1990 movie, which focuses on the sport and features Tom Cruise.

Their report claims that multiple sources familiar with the situation have stated that the writer has been at multiple races recently, including last November's championship race and the Daytona 500 in February.

Kyle Busch confirms Days of Thunder talks

Speaking to the media at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, Busch was asked about reports and his thoughts on the potential for a follow-up to the hit 1990 movie.

Busch emphasized that the sport need 'to be careful' and make sure that they get it right, but that it would be awesome to see, also revealing that he has held talks with the Hollywood writer who is currently attempting to come up with a plot.

“I don't know how much NASCAR's involvement is, if they're the ones calling for it or not, but obviously I think it would be something cool," Busch said. "It would be special.

"You've got to be careful with it, right? Because the first one was so good, you don't want to screw up the second one. It's always hard to come back with a better second chance at making a movie. But no, it's awesome.

"I've had a chance to speak with the writer a couple times about some of the ideas and whatnot, so that's been pretty fun and interesting to see what the concept may be or may not be.

"But yeah, we're certainly looking forward to it and seeing it come to fruition.”

Has NASCAR confirmed Days of Thunder sequel?

NASCAR has not yet confirmed any Days of Thunder sequel, nor made any announcements that it is in the works.

However, in January 2025, NASCAR President Steve O'Donnell did say that he 'would love' to see a sequel happen.
